What is a permaculture site analysis?

Before designing, a permaculture designer studies the land: climate, frost, sun and shade, slope, water, soil, wind, access and what the people living there need. This free check covers the climate, frost, sun and terrain part from public data.

How do I find my hardiness zone?

Drop a pin on your land and press Check my land. The zone follows the USDA method — the average of each year's coldest night over the last ten years — and we also show the zone of the hardest winter, which is what long-lived trees must survive.

When is the last frost where I live?

The check gives the typical last spring frost and first autumn frost (the middle of the last ten years) and the frost-free days between. Hollows and valley floors are often colder, so plant tender crops a week or two later there.

Want a real plan for your land?

Run the check above and press “Save to my land” — then add your soil and wishes, get the reality check, and ask up to three designers for their price.
